Amnesty International Nigeria has strongly criticized the Department of State Services (DSS) for asking social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to delete a post by activist Omoyele Sowore.
In a statement, Isa Sanusi, Amnesty’s Country Director, said the move was “an unlawful attempt to silence critics and spread fear online.”

He described the action as “outrageous and without legal basis,” noting that it violates Nigeria’s Constitution and international human rights laws, including the African Charter and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.
Sanusi urged the DSS to immediately withdraw its demand and called on Nigerian authorities to respect people’s rights to free expression and privacy.
Amnesty also advised X not to obey the order, stressing that the platform should protect freedom of speech.
