‘Attend To Police Invitation’, Tambuwal Advises El-Rufai

Former Sokoto State governor and current Senator representing Sokoto South, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has advised former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, to honour the police invitation extended to him, stressing the importance of respecting constitutional authorities.

Speaking during an interview on Channels TV’s ‘Politics Today’ on Friday night, Tambuwal described himself as a law-abiding citizen who would also comply if summoned.

“I am a lawyer of about 32 years standing, I am a life bencher, I’ve been a member of parliament for twelve years before and now two years in the Senate. I am a law-abiding citizen of this country. Whoever is invited by a constitutional authority should appear. I would advise my brother and friend El-Rufai to attend to the invitation of the police,” Tambuwal said.

He added that police invitations should not be over-interpreted, stressing that due process must be allowed to run its course.

“If I am invited today by the police on an investigation, I will appear. The interpretation and reading of meaning into the invitation is a different ball game altogether. The times are interesting and the police need to be very circumspect going forward,” he stated.

When asked directly whether the police were wrong to summon El-Rufai, Tambuwal offered a cautious response. “I can’t say they are wrong in this situation, but they need to be more circumspect,” he said.

Tambuwal’s comments came amid rising public debate over the police invitation to El-Rufai over alleged disturbance of public peace as a result of convening a meeting of thr opposition ADC.
