Defence Minister: I Can’t Fail, Nigerians Expect A Lot — Chris Musa

General Chris Musa (rtd), the Minister of Defence, says he must not fail because Nigerians expect so much from him.

Musa, who was appointed by President Bola Tinubu, said this on Wednesday during his screening at the Senate.

He thanked the president for choosing him and also thanked Nigerians for trusting him.

He promised to do his best to bring back peace to the country.

He said: “About expectations, I can tell you that I am also feeling the pressure. When I saw the reactions after my name was announced, I knew I must not fail myself, my country, or my family. Whatever we need to do, we will give our very best. And I know that with God on our side, we will succeed.”

Musa added that he was surprised by the huge support he saw online.

“I went on social media and I was shocked by the responses. It shows that people really care about making Nigeria peaceful.”

He said some people claim Nigerians do not love the country, but he disagrees.

“When people say Nigerians don’t love us, I say no—they don’t understand who Nigerians are.”

Musa also spoke about the killings happening in parts of the country.

“Whether it is called genocide or not, we are all victims. People are being killed everywhere,” he said.

He stressed the need for unity.

“That is why we must work together. It is when we leave gaps that the criminals take advantage. They don’t care who they kill. These are evil people, many of them on drugs.”

He promised that security forces will tackle the killers.

“For any reason, these killings must stop. No Nigerian — in fact, no one in Nigeria — should be killed. Our goal is to confront these criminals directly and stop the killings.”
