The Department of State Services (DSS) has warned that members of the terrorist group, Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), are planning attacks in some parts of Ondo and Kogi States.
In a confidential letter dated October 20, 2025, the DSS informed the Nigerian Army’s 32 Artillery Brigade in Akure about the planned attacks.

The letter, signed by Hi Kana, the Directorof Security in Ondo State, said the group had started watching some communities closely.
The areas mentioned as possible targets include Eriti Akoko and Oyin Akoko in Akoko North-West Local Government, and Owo town in Owo Local Government of Ondo State.
The DSS advised the military to increase patrols and strengthen security in these communities to prevent any attacks. The agency said its intelligence showed that ISWAP was planning coordinated strikes soon.
This warning comes almost three years after the June 2022 attack on St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, where over 40 people were killed by suspected ISWAP fighters.
However, the Ondo State Government has urged residents not to panic. It said security agencies are already aware of the situation and are working together to protect lives and property.
Speaking on behalf of the government, Mr. Idowu Ajanaku, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, said the leaked DSS letter was part of regular intelligence sharing between security agencies.
He explained that such reports are common and help security agencies to take preventive measures before any threat becomes real.
“The government and security agencies are taking all necessary steps to ensure safety. Residents should remain calm and continue with their normal activities,” Ajanaku said.
He added that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa is in close contact with all security agencies to ensure that Ondo remains one of the safest states in Nigeria.
Ajanaku also called on residents to be alert and report any suspicious movement or persons to the nearest security post.
“We appeal to the people to stay calm, avoid spreading panic, and support security efforts by sharing useful information,” he said.
