Senate President Godswill Akpabio has told protesting contractors that the National Assembly has approved President Bola Tinubu’s request for ₦1.15 trillion in domestic borrowing to pay debts owed to them.
Earlier on Tuesday, contractors who were not paid blocked the National Assembly gate to protest unpaid money for completed government projects, briefly disrupting activities.

During the plenary, Akpabio said part of the borrowing plan had already been approved to clear the debts. He asked the protesters to be patient as the government finalizes payment arrangements.
“We have approved domestic borrowing to pay contractors,” Akpabio said, adding that the move is part of government efforts to strengthen the economy and rebuild trust in public contracts.
