Former Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor (rtd), has urged the Federal Government to officially declare war on terrorists and bandits troubling Nigeria.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Irabor said Nigeria is not legally at war despite ongoing insecurity.

He explained that a formal declaration would help the government coordinate all national resources and ensure accountability in the fight against terrorism.
“Declaring war allows the government to fully mobilise its power and properly channel resources,” he said.
Irabor noted that military action alone cannot solve insecurity, stressing the need for good policies that tackle poverty, unemployment, and education gaps.
“If we reduce the number of out-of-school children and create jobs, we’ll also reduce criminal recruitment,” he said.
He cautioned politicians against politicising security issues.
While President Bola Tinubu recently claimed that peace has returned to many parts of the North, opposition parties insist insecurity remains a major challenge across the country.
