The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council, has announced the death of its former Chairman, Comrade Ndamadu Sule, who passed away in the early hours of Friday after a long illness. He was 74.

In a statement signed by the Council’s Secretary, Comrade Jide Oyekunle, the union described Sule as an outstanding journalist and a dedicated union leader who left an enduring mark on the media landscape.

Sule, who hailed from Bassa Local Government Area of Kogi State, was buried on Friday according to Islamic rites at the Masaka Muslim burial ground. He is survived by two wives and six children.

The NUJ recalled that Comrade Sule, who chaired the FCT Council between 1991 and 1995, was widely admired for his integrity, accountability, and exceptional leadership. He was known for his strong defence of press freedom and his tireless advocacy for the welfare and professional development of journalists.

The late journalist worked with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), where he distinguished himself and contributed significantly to the growth of the media industry.

Reacting to the loss, the current Chairman of the NUJ FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, described Sule’s death as “a painful blow to the journalism community,” adding that his wisdom, courage, and statesmanship would be deeply missed.

The Council has opened a condolence register at its Secretariat in Utako, Abuja, and extended heartfelt sympathies to the deceased’s family, colleagues, and all who were touched by his impactful life.
