Dear President Bola Tinubu,
As you navigate the complexities of leading Nigeria, I urge you to prioritize building strong institutions over personal interests; especially among your disciples. This is crucial to avoid political paralysis of the system and truncation of democracy and ensure the country’s progress for the sake of the future generations yet unborn.
The current state of Nigeria is dire, with widespread poverty, corruption, and insecurity threatening the very fabric of our society. The removal of fuel subsidy and floating of the Naira have exacerbated economic hardship for the average and poor Nigerian. It’s essential to address these challenges through inclusive governance and economic policies. A human person is a symbol of economy, life without a viable economy is like tea without sugar. The economy is human.
Key Areas to Focus On:
Strengthening Institutions:
Ensure the independence of institutions like the judiciary, legislature, and anti-corruption agencies. This will help combat impunity, corruption, mismanagement and promote honesty and accountability in the country.
Economic Reforms:
Implement policies that promote economic growth, reduce inequality, and create jobs especially among the current generation and (indeed) future generations yet unborn. Diversify the economy, invest in infrastructure, science, technology, innovation and support small businesses. This is exactly what the Chinese and Indians did.
Security and Law Enforcement:
Address the security challenges facing the country, including terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping. Ensure that law enforcement agencies are well-equipped and accountable.
Social Welfare:
Implement policies that alleviate poverty, illiteracy and diseases at lower levels and improve healthcare, and enhance education especially at higher levels.
Mr. President, the fate of Nigeria hangs in the balance. Building strong institutions and addressing the country’s challenges will require courage, vision, and determination. I urge you to rise to the occasion and work towards a better future for all Nigerians. Your Excellency, if your government can do that history will never forget your contributions to our dear nation. I wish you all the best in your 1460 days of democratic governance in Nigeria.
Sincerely,
Dr. Abbati Bako, abbatibako@gmail.com
