Police Investigate Officer Over Viral Arrest Of Lagos Bus Conductor

The Lagos State Police Command is investigating a police officer after a video of him arresting a bus conductor went viral.

The incident happened on Saturday in the Ikorodu area. In the video, the officer was seen holding the conductor, who was half-naked, while trying to arrest him. The video caused public anger because many people felt the officer used too much force.

Police spokesperson Abimbola Adebisi explained what happened in a statement on Sunday. He said the bus driver had blocked the road with his vehicle, causing heavy traffic and discomfort for other road users.

During the arrest, the conductor removed his clothes to try to escape, which was when the video was recorded.

The police said the officer in the video has been identified and is now under investigation. They also said the conductor has been contacted and will meet with the Commissioner of Police on Monday. The bus involved has been seized for further investigation.

The Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, urged Lagos residents to obey the law and report any police officer who violates their rights. The police also warned that people should not dramatise the situation or resist arrest, as resisting arrest is a crime.

The Command promised to conduct a transparent investigation and make the findings public.
