Shiite Members Protest Trump’s Invasion Threat in Kano

Members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), also known as Shiites, held a peaceful protest in Kano on Saturday against U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent threat to invade Nigeria.

The protesters marched through major streets carrying placards and banners rejecting Trump’s claim that Christians were being killed in Nigeria.

Some dragged the American flag on the ground, while others displayed effigies of the U.S. president.

Trump had earlier described Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern,” accusing terrorist groups of persecuting Christians and warning that the U.S. could send troops if the Nigerian government failed to act.

In response, the IMN dismissed Trump’s statement as false and divisive. Abdullahi Danladi, speaking for the group’s Resource Forum, said the comment was “inflammatory and dangerous,” accusing western nations of spreading propaganda to divide Nigerians along religious lines.

“Our country’s problems are caused by corruption and political greed, not religion. Both Islam and Christianity teach peace and moral values, but foreign powers and politicians use our differences to their advantage,” Danladi said.

The federal government has also rejected Trump’s genocide claim, stating that terrorist attacks in Nigeria are indiscriminate and not targeted at any particular faith.
