Members of the House of Representatives from the South-East have asked President Bola Tinubu to pardon Nnamdi Kanu, the IPOB leader who was recently sentenced to life imprisonment for terrorism.
They said Kanu’s continued detention has increased tension in the South-East and that his release would help reduce fear, calm the region, and promote peace.

The lawmakers noted that a presidential pardon would show fairness and help start dialogue between the government and community leaders.
They also said that although they respect the court’s judgment, the situation has become a national issue affecting security, the economy, and daily life in the South-East.
Kanu was convicted by a Federal High Court in Abuja, but his lawyers plan to appeal the ruling.
