Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has warned politicians not to try to rig the 2027 governorship election in the state.
Speaking on Thursday during his monthly media chat at the Government House in Umuahia, the governor said the people’s choice must be respected.

He explained that the next election would be decided by God and the people, not by political tricks.
Governor Otti advised anyone thinking of influencing the election to stop, warning that any attempt to steal the people’s mandate would have serious consequences.
“I’ve heard that some people are saying they will take over this state and even write election results,” Otti said. “My advice to them is simple — before they write any results, they should first write their will.”
The governor made this comment in reaction to a recent statement credited to Benjamin Kalu, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, who reportedly said that the All Progressives Congress (APC) would take over Abia State in 2027.
Otti said he has no problem with anyone running for governor but insisted that the election process must be free, fair, and transparent.
“Everyone has the right to contest,” he said, “but no one should think they can go against the will of the people of Abia State.”
