President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano State and leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), on his birthday celebrated on October 21, 2025.
In a statement by his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, the President extended his good wishes to Kwankwaso’s family, friends, and political associates, describing the NNPP leader as a long-time friend.

Tinubu praised Kwankwaso’s service to Nigeria in various leadership roles, including as Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives during the Third Republic, two-term governor of Kano State, Minister of Defence, and Senator representing Kano Central.
The President said Kwankwaso’s political influence, especially in the North, reflects his commitment to people-centered politics, similar to the style of the late Mallam Aminu Kano and Alhaji Abubakar Rimi.
Tinubu recalled their shared history, saying, “Senator Kwankwaso remains a friend and ally with whom I served in the National Assembly in 1992 and later as governors in 1999. We also worked together in founding the All Progressives Congress (APC). Although he later left to form the NNPP, he still belongs to the progressive family.”
President Tinubu wished Kwankwaso good health and many more years of meaningful service to Nigeria.
