US To Support Nigeria With Intelligence And Defence Equipment

The Nigerian government says the United States has agreed to increase security cooperation with Nigeria.

This includes giving Nigeria more intelligence support and defence equipment to help in the fight against terrorists and violent groups.

This decision followed meetings in Washington, DC, between top Nigerian officials—led by National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu—and US government agencies.

The delegation also included the Attorney General, military chiefs, and the Inspector General of Police.

During the meetings, the Nigerian team denied claims of genocide in the country. They said violence affects all communities, regardless of religion or ethnicity, and that describing it as genocide is misleading.

Both countries agreed to improve cooperation immediately and set up a Joint Working Group to coordinate efforts.

The US also promised possible humanitarian aid and help in improving early-warning systems.

The Nigerian government assured that it is committed to protecting civilians and promoting religious freedom.

The talks come after US President Donald Trump recently threatened military action over what he called the killing of Christians in Nigeria.

President Tinubu rejected Trump’s claims, insisting Nigeria is committed to tolerance and does not support any form of religious persecution.
