Gov Uzodimma Raises Minimum Wage To ₦104,000 For Imo Workers

Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has increased the minimum wage for workers in the state from ₦70,000 to ₦104,000.

He announced the new wage during a meeting with labour leaders at the Government House in Owerri.

The governor also approved ₦16 billion to clear all outstanding gratuities owed to pensioners in the state.

Labour leaders praised the decision, describing it as a historic step to improve the lives of workers and retirees. They sang solidarity songs in support of the governor’s action.

Those present at the meeting included the state NLC Chairman, Uche Chigemezu; TUC Chairman, Uchenna Ibe; NUP Chairman, Josiah Ugochukwu; and NMA Chairman, Barth Echeta.

The announcement comes after President Bola Tinubu signed the new minimum wage law in July 2024, raising the national minimum wage from ₦30,000 to ₦70,000. Since then, several states have adjusted their wages upward.

For example, Lagos State pays ₦85,000, Akwa Ibom, Enugu, and Bayelsa pay ₦80,000, while Osun State pays ₦75,000.
